Applications

Dyneema

Dyneema is made of Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE, UHMW). Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene is a subset of the thermoplastic polyethylene. Also known as high-modulus polyethylene, (HMPE), it has extremely long chains, with a molecular mass usually between 3.5 and 7.5 million amu. The longer chain serves to transfer load more effectively to the polymer backbone by strengthening intermolecular interactions. This results in a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. (wikipedia)

Dyneema is developed by the Dutch company DSM. The materiual itself is colourless, light (it floats) and durable. It is used in applications where it matters. For example in rope for climbing, sails end also in fencing. All Free Fencing cloting material use Dyneema mixed with Polyester in a ratio of 50-50. This leads to a material which is strong, save, light and comfortable.

You will find Dyneema in competitors gear, but only in their most expensive top line. Free Fencing has one line only.

The material can be washed. Free Fencing recomments hand wash at 30°C. Do not iron the material, it can meld if over heated.
